Locks

Adequately locked doors and windows provide the first line of defence for your premises and we can offer a wide range of door and window locks available for both wood and metal construction.

Mortice Locks

It is recommended that all entrance doors are fitted with a mortice lock. Mortice locks provide greater front, side, and back door security by being physically embedded, or "morticed" into the door itself. A mortice lock is therefore less vulnerable to ram or forced attack than a surface mounted lock. We fit mortice locks that are certified to BS 3621 and which can be identified by the British Standards kitemark symbol.

Mortice locks are available with 2,3,5 or 7 lever mechanisms. The higher the number of "levers" the more difficult the lock is to "pick". For front, side and back doors it is recommended that British Standard 5 or 7 lever locks are fitted.

Rim Locks

Cylinder rim locks are fitted to the surface of the door and are used primarily as a convenient security lock for front doors and can also be used for back doors.

Cylinder rim locks are available with a wide range of different security and operational features. Some offer a latchbolt that can be deadlocked by an internal sliding button or by turning the key from either the inside or the outside of the door.

Window Locks

6 out of 10 burglaries begin with entry through a window at the back of the house. Some of the burglaries are made simple by easing an already open window and many are made by breaking the glass and reaching in to release the window catch.

Such forced entries can be prevented by fitting effective window locks to your home, particularly on all downstairs windows and upstairs windows that are accessible from a flat roof drainpipe or other vantage point.

Window locks secure the window to the frame by a simple bolt or clasp operation. This means that forced entry can only be made by breaking all the glass in the window and climbing through. The time it takes to do this, the noise it creates, and the prospect of injury is often enough to deter the opportunist burglar, yet fewer than 5 out of every 10 households have fitted window locks.

Window locks are relatively inexpensive, simple to fit, and very easy to operate and are available for a wide range of different window applications.

Padlocks

A range of padlocks are available to suit a wide variety of applications. The effectiveness of the padlock is not only dependent upon the sophistication of its locking mechanism but also upon the quality of its padbar. It is not much use having the most robust padlock if the padbar to which it is shackled is easily levered or if the gatepost or door to which it is fixed is rotten or in need of repair and attention.

There are two basic designs of padlock, open shackle and close shackle. Open shackle padlocks are the more familiar design where the looped shackle is exposed. Close shackle padlocks have concealed shackles which make them less vulnerable to cutting or sawing attack.
